This what we see when we step out our front door. Our apartment is on the side of the hill on which the temple is built. We climb up some stairs to reach the temple grounds.

There are four or five sets of steps, each with six or seven steps. This shows the white corridor we walk in when we leave our apartment. The fence is at the edge of the temple grounds. The corridor splits into two sections, one going right and one going left (as you descend). It depends on which building you're going to. We can take either one because we are in the middle building.

This picture shows the terraced hillside between our apartment and the temple grounds. The whole yard is full of this sort of greenery -- palm trees, flowering trees, bushes, flowers. There is a trickling water fall with a fish pond at the bottom. In it are several big goldfish. (I tried to get a picture of that, but you can't see what it really looks like. Besides, it started to rain.)

At one end of the front entrance, we can see some of the buildings in down-town Manila. Manila is just one part of the scene. We live in Quezon (KAY-zone) City. Then there is Merekita, Pasig, San Juan, and a bunch more. All this is just referred to as "Metro-Manila."
The Fullers came to dinner on Sunday. They are the missionary couple who returned the furniture. Elder and Sister Fuller are sophisticated couple, but they decided to dramatize this shot. See the soft leather sofa. They just had to sit on it one more time.
This is Gail's nursery class. Our camera batteries went dead when we got this shot, so we didn't get to do any others.

The scenary looks beautiful and so well manicured. I guess that's one of the benefits of living in a Church run building and being so close to the temple.
The furniture looks MUCH more comfy than your old wicker stuff - I can see why Dad was so anxious for it.
The nursery class if very cute, but where's the pet spider? Was he not able to come to class that day?
ha ha...that's what I was going to say. I wanted to see the spider! :)
So pretty soon here you will start going to your new branch right?
Grandma and Gandpa O... Does it ALWAYS get cloudy and start to rain?
Where will you watch conference?
How clever you are! I love your Blog --- enjoyed the pictures and seeing what your world is like. (Just a little greener than good ol' Las Vegas). Will look forward to the next episode.
No spiders lately. That boy is not in nursery anyway. He's probably five or six years old.
We will watch conference in a big room in the administration building. Nothing comes on our Saturday, but we'll watch Saturday's sessions on Sunday, then Sunday's the following week.
Kenna . . . Yep, it just starts raining. There is such a heavy smog cloud all the time (well, most of the time), that you can't see whether it's clouding up or not. But it just starts raining, usually with no warning. But sometimes, big clouds roll in, darker than the smog. Lightening, thunder, and "I want my Mama" type winds. Those are called typhoons here.
Great job on your blog, missionary Roundys. I look forward to checking in on you. I assume Elder Owen is the blogger. I also think it would be nice to have a "Sister Gail's insights" or something once in a while.
Fun to see and hear how you're doing. We just returned from our Nauvoo trip and thought you might like to hear a speck about our fun and adventures. love, lida
We just returned last night from our trip to Nauvoo and Independence and it was
fantastic
and the wedding was wonderful except Jean, the bride, got left at the altar. :) As they
were kneeling across the altar and Pres Pierce started the marriage ceremony, the temple
worker responsible came over and touched Jerre's robe (he's the cousin we went to attend
the sealing for) and took him out of the room. His robe was inside out! The ceremony was
very touching and we had a wonderful meal at Marlene and Hugh's duplex afterwards.
(Marlene is another cousin and Hugh is Pres Pierce) Then we had the chance to visit for a
couple of hours with all the family -- Rick and Adele, (cousins just retuning from their
CES mission) Bill, and of course Marlene and Hugh along with Jerre' and Jean with the 6 of
us had a wonderful visit. (Rick and Bill are brothers to Jerre' Bentley) Then Jean
locked her keys to her car in the trunk and that added a bit of excitement. Everything
did go well from that point when a man they knew came and got the car unlocked. The
reception was delightful and we attended a fun musical program afterwards put on by the
senior missionaries of the Church.
Sunday evening Marlene and Hugh showed their slide show Sunday evening of the Nauvoo
temple construction since only Nellie and I had seen it. It was great to see it again.
(Marlene's brother Ronald had been the overseer of the temple construction and Marlene
worked in the office after she lost her husband. That's where she met Hugh and they
eventually married after she got a temporary release from her mission and then they were
recalled as a couple to finish her mission assignment. Hugh is a counselor in the Nauvoo
temple presidency.)
We had great accomodations at the Nauvoo Condos and saw wonderful things from the old
Nauvoo graveyard, the printing office, the gun shop, the post office, the trail of Hope,
etc. As we traveled to Independence, Missouri on Monday to see where Leona and Larry
served, we saw Adam on Diamon, Far West, Jamesport (where we shopped in an Amish store),
Hamibal where we ate in the Mark Twain Family Restaurant, the mission home, the Visitor's
Center, the RLDS temple and conference center, and the Harry S. Truman Museum to name the
major ones. Leona and Larry got to visit with many that they had worked with and we
learned some new information from Bro Poll who told us things about the twelve tribes and
other fun stuff. If we get the chance, I'll have to share it with you.
Anyway, we arrived home last evening and are exhausted but totally happy. Doug and
Nellie, Larry and Leona, Richard and I thought it was a marvelous trip and are sooo glad
we went. What a memory making trip. love, lida
