This is the canyon where the Wa-Wa Dam is. You can see where the water now spills over the top of the dam. The lake is nearly full of sediment. The dam was built in 1909 and is only used now as a water fall. This is the canyon where the Japanese held out the longest in WWII. In fact, several
Japanese soldiers were still hiding out some 20 years after the end of the war. They had to fly in a Japanese commander of some sort and he ordered them to lay down their arms. To surrender is almost unforgiveable to the Japanese, we were told.
